Name: Matthew ("Matt") Murdock
Door: Right

Canon: MCU
Canon Point: Daredevil 3x03, after Matt reveals to Foggy that he's alive

Age: 33
Appearance: GIF image

History: Matt at MCU Wiki

Personality:
Positive Trait: FAITH. Matt is well-known for being a man of faith, and that reputation has merit. Having been raised as Catholic in general, and, specifically, come into the care of the nuns at St. Agnes Orphanage after the death of his father, faith has not only provided a framework through which Matt interprets the world, but also served as a guiding light to inform his own strong moral compass. Values such as community and justice have been instilled in him from an early age through his faith; youth at his church, for example, were required to participate in community service, and it's a value that has remained with him well into his adult life. It's care for his community, to help people in it where the law quite can't, that is one of his primary motivations to go out on the streets of Hell's Kitchen as Daredevil. Furthermore, Matt's faith drives him to believe in redemption, that people deserve another chance to try again. This is a focal point of his moral code — and the primary reason that he does not kill. Even beyond what religious faith has helped to establish, Matt has faith in people. When push comes to shove, he believes in his friends; he believes, wholeheartedly, that his first love, Elektra, has goodness in her in spite of all the violence she's done and ways that the Hand has manipulated her, and he fights tirelessly to protect that belief, to try to get her to see that in herself.

Negative Trait: SELF-SABOTAGING. Though there are numerous obstacles that exist in Matt's way on any given day, perhaps the greatest obstacle of all is himself. Matt frequently engages in behaviors that are contradictory to his well-being, both in a physical and emotional sense. For instance, Matt rarely gives his body time to heal after injuries, opening wounds and otherwise making things worse for himself; he still continues to fight, even right after being shot in the head at the beginning of Daredevil season 2. More often, though, Matt self-sabotages in an emotional sense — especially in his personal relationships. After being abandoned by most of the important people in his life early on — his mother when he was a baby, his father dying when he was a child, his mentor Stick leaving him behind some years later — Matt desperately wants people to be close to, but often, almost paradoxically, pushes them away. He frequently shuts down attempts by others to help, and keeps most people at arm's length; he convinces himself that he's doing this for their protection, but really, he's isolating, ensuring that he won't be hurt by a relationship that never progresses to the point of being able to. After the collapse of the building at Midland Circle and subsequently being assumed dead, Matt continues to let his friends believe he's dead, because he's simply decided it's better this way. In his own words, he believes that he has a tendency to "ruin things" that come into his life — and this proves, time and time again, to be a self-fulfilling prophecy.

Negative Trait: STUBBORN. There are probably very few people in the world more stubborn than Matt Murdock, and while that can have its virtues (a drive to keep pushing, even with odds stacked against him), it has many, many pitfalls. Matt doesn't know when to quit, and once he has his mind on something, he cannot easily be shaken — even if the path he's on leads to his own detriment. This has numerous canonical examples, from Matt's multiple single-minded attempts to stay ahead of adversary Wilson Fisk and expose his crimes, to his insistence that his firm take on, and continue, the case of Frank Castle even when the case is more than likely doomed from the start, to all the times that he has insisted on continuing to fight even when grievously injured. Furthermore, when Matt believes he's right, he can't be shaken from that, either. This often devolves into a certain self-righteousness, where Matt will not so much as entertain any information or view than what he has decided to commit to; it's a frequent cause of friction and conflict with colleagues and loved ones — and has, more than once, led to the dissolution of Nelson and Murdock, the firm that Matt established with his best friend, Foggy Nelson.

Negative Trait: ANGRY. Due to his childhood accident and the loss of his father, among other things, Matt harbors a great amount of anger toward the world. It’s an understandable trauma response, but it tends to supersede other emotions that he often suppresses. One notable canonical instance of this takes place during Daredevil season 1, upon the death of Mrs. Cardenas, a client of Nelson and Murdock; while Matt's friends shed tears and display visible grief, all that is seen from Matt is anger — which, in turn, leads to more intense vigilante efforts on his part. Matt starts arguments easily (he had once been called "argumentative", in fact, by the priest in his childhood church), and, more often than not, devolve into high emotion and shouting. Anger is something that Matt has largely failed to find a healthy outlet for, so he turns to using his fists. Violent tendencies, then, find a home with Matt’s anger, and his vigilante outings, so to speak, allow him an opportunity to "let the devil out". Though he maintains a personal resolve not to kill, one can see that he gets quite brutal with people he encounters on the streets — often unnecessarily so. He has been shown to leave a man hanging from a roof, among other things.

Powers and Abilities: After the accident that blinded Matt as a child, his other senses were enhanced to superhuman levels. His enhanced hearing includes an ability to use something like echolocation (which is referred to in the comics as a "radar sense"), detecting objects and people in his environment by the echoes that bounce off of them, and he is able to detect dishonesty by listening to the heartbeats of those he's speaking with. (A note about this will be included in Matt's in-game permissions post, if accepted.) His senses of taste, smell, and touch also far surpass those of the average person, as well as his balance, dexterity, and reflexes. Having been trained by master Chaste warrior Stick, Matt is an expert martial artist and acrobat, adept at hand-to-hand combat, and is skilled with weapons such as staffs and clubs. Finally, with a law degree from Columbia and years of experience working as a lawyer, Matt possesses a vast amount of legal knowledge, as well as a keen ability to make persuasive arguments.

Inventory: Aside from the clothes he's wearing, Matt will have (1) pair of tinted glasses, (1) white cane, and Foggy's wallet (which he had stolen just prior to his canon point).
